FAQ

How does Living Vehicle (LV) differ from a traditional travel trailer?

Living Vehicle is built from the ground up for full-time and extended-use. Built for independence and powered by the sun, Living Vehicle is designed to thrive in all four seasons, both on and off grid. Living Vehicle puts quality first and is made to last for generations.

The difference is more than just a list of specs, it is an attitude - a belief and relentless mission to have a positive impact on the world and challenge the way we live and travel. We recognize LV is not for everyone, and so we refuse to make compromises to fit the mold. Designed for individuals that value innovation as much as we do, Living Vehicle is handcrafted for the most discerning clientele.

LV offers maximum freedom and versatility when it comes to traveling or choosing a permanent or semi-permanent place to park. As an RVIA certified trailer, LV may travel to any campground, state, or national park.  Public lands are some of our favorite spots to travel. Check out National Forests, public deserts, or the over 15% of America’s land designated as BLM (Bureau of Land Management), and is completely free and open to the public for extended stays.  Many municipalities all across the nation are allowing Living Vehicle to be used as an Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU).

What type of truck do I need to tow an LV?

Modern day trucks are more capable and nimbler than ever before.  With diesel engines quieter and more efficient than gas, there are a number of great brands to choose from.  Joanna's daily driver is a 2020 3500 Ram Laramie, Cummins 6.7, 4x4, Crew cab, short bed, with a suite of wonderful LV designed aftermarket features!

We recommend a full-size truck that has a towing capacity of at least 16,000 lbs. for a CORE configuration and 18,000 lbs. for a PRO.  Equally important is the truck has payload rating of at least 3,000 lbs. to ensure you have enough power to carry all your passengers and gear while carrying a trailer on the hitch.

These requirements typically result in a truck that’s either a ¾ or 1-ton configuration (250/2500 or 350/3500 respectively). We highly recommend diesel for the increased capacity and numerous towing features that come standard with a diesel engine.  We also recommend a 4x4 setup for off-road and 4-season travel.  The major brand truck sites offer simple configurators to determine make, model, and configuration information with respect to towing capability.

The 2022 Living Vehicle has a base weight of 11,500 and GVWR is 16,000. Depending on what model or configuration you choose, weights will increase from there. Prior to purchasing a truck, please contact Living Vehicle Sales to confirm the truck will be a good fit for your planned configuration.
